Publication launch: Otherworldly Communications
95 photosThis was the launch of Constant's third publication under the SPLINT research trajectory: Otherworldly Communications!
In 2025 Constant’s research focused on how different forms of life co/exist and circulate in the midst of damage and toxicity and how we could critically engage with different conceptions of the ’other’ (as in: other than human, otherworldly and otherings). This publication tells a subjective and multi-voiced story about discoveries and encounters that happened during the unfolding of our activities.
The publication was compiled during a three day sprint by Constant’s team, guided by graphic designer Sarah Magnan, and printed at chez rosi in Brussels using the software Octomode by Creative Crowds.
During the event, we had live contributions by some of the artists that accompanied us in this trajectory, such as Joke Caimo, Blise Orr, Varia.

Hormonobotanik.wiki workshop
11 photosHormonobotanik is a project focusing on medicinal plants, their phytohormonal properties and their uses in transition processes, initiated by Flo*Souad Benaddi in 2019. In 2023, following an online residency, the collaboration with Leo Ren O’Faigain blossomed with Infusion2Gâteau, a first recipe composed of phytohormonal ingredients that was sent by email. In 2024, with Doriane Timmermans, the idea of a tool for collective work, archiving, and dissemination of the project began to take shape: the hormonobotanik.wiki
From November 2025 to February 2026, hormonobotanik used the vitrine of Constant as a physical interface to connect to the wiki evolution, but also as a place to make visible the process at work.
On Saturday 31st January 2026, a ‘web-to-screen printing’ workshop based on the wiki content and other resources on trans identities concluded this chapter of the project.

Study days : Rattus urbanicus
21 photosConstant organised two study days on the 10 & 11 December 2025 around the figure of the urban rat in the context of the yearly trajectory called Otherworldly communications.
These study days were meant to critically engage with different conceptions of the ’other’ as in: other than human, otherworldly and otherings. We convoked the figure of the urban rat to speak about notions of invasiveness and out-of-place-ness, and to examine how the gesture of othering normalises and fuels systemic violence. These study days brought us closer to so-called invasive/unwanted species while discussing biosocial order, sterile urban spaces and, consequently, who gets to (visibly) occupy them.
During these two days, we scratched at several layers through a visit to the Sewer Museum of Brussels, contributions and activations from the Invasive Species Working Group, collective readings and a speculative writing session by Maru Mushtrieva.

Constant_V : Hormonobotanik.wiki finissage

Over the previous weeks, the project occupied the window of Constant by planting, watering, and cultivating the hormonobotanik wiki. The finissage took place on Thursday 12 February 2026. The artists proposed an activity to make our own cookie cutter, the tasting of a homemade drink, a visit to the expanded hormonobotanik wiki and finally handed out stickers of the project.

Converging - following the elements
49 photosFollowing the rhythm of the toads, frogs and salamanders in winter/spring 2025. When it’s around 7 degrees at night for a few days in a row, humid, the amphibians start migrating towards certain breeding ponds. The tram tracks provided unexpected challenges in the migration.

Constant_V : Tree Times
61 photosWhen does a tree’s sap start flowing, when do trees get to work in the morning, when does their trunk grow most? During one year, the artists of the Anaïs Berck collective measured the movements of three Scots Pines in three nature reserves in Flanders, with the intention of designing tree clocks. They recorded their movements using sensors that measure the expansion and contraction of the trunk, CO2 absorption, air temperature and humidity, and sunlight.
The installation runs simultaneously in Constant, the Kalmthoutse Heide/De Vroente, Landschap De Liereman, and Pijnven/National Park Bosland.

Brussels is partly built on sand (SiO2, silicon dioxide). This sand was probably deposited by a tropical sea or a delta. In the Middle Ages, sand was extracted from the subsurface of Saint-Gilles, near the rue du fort. The sand was used for construction works and to level the ground. The expansion of the city, put a stop to this extraction at the end of the 19th century.
Bringing sand into the vertical plane of the shop window is an invitation to ask questions about the history and the composition of the underlying underground that typically lies underfoot and out of sight. The speculative archival document in the window is mineral.
